We had the pleasure of meeting Logan & Noah Miller at their book signing event at Rakestraw Books in Danville. 

 The brothers talked about their new book, Either You’re In or You’re In the Way:Two Brothers, Twelve Months, and One Filmmaking Hell-ride to Keep a Promise to Their Father. The inspiring, hilarious, implausible, and touching story of twin brothers accomplishing the impossible — making a feature film (with a cast and crew with 11 Academy Awards and 26 nominations) with no experience, no money and no contacts — and in so doing, creating a better life for themselves.

 When identical twin brothers Logan and Noah Miller’s homeless father died alone in a jail cell, they vowed, come hell or high water, their film, Touching Home, would be made as a dedication to their love for him. Either You’re in or You’re in the Way is the amazing story of how — without a dime to their names nor a single meaningful contact in Hollywood — they managed to write, produce, direct, and act in a feature film alongside four-time Academy Award-nominated actor Ed Harris and fellow nominees Brad Dourif and Robert Forster.

 We thoroughly enjoyed listening to Noah & Logan reading from their book. Much of their life experience growing up is shocking to read. They finish and start each other’s sentences, share everything, and each put the other first. It was not only entertaining but very moving to witness their indescribably tight bond.

Burke Williams opened their Danville spa location last fall. Pinkies Nail Salons owners, Derik Landry and Connie Kullberg, recently visited the spa incognito to see what all the excitement was  about.

 
The spa takes up the entire second floor of the main building at the newly opened Rose Garden Center in Danville, Ca and is beautifully decorated Candice Olson style (for you HGTV lovers). The main lounge and waiting area is refreshing and airy with a coastal feel . Plush sofas, chairs, and ottomans are so inviting we could have lingered for hours in our fluffy spa robes. The room is filled with a thoughtful collection of beauty products in all price ranges.

 
Both Men’s and Ladies lounges are well appointed with an oversized jacuzzi, stream room, dry sauna, and relaxation areas decorated with the by-the-sea theme. The spa attendants were exceptional, offering eucalyptus spray for the steambath, foaming and fragrant Juniper oil for th jacuzzi, sliced cucumbers for eyes, and a deliciously refreshing lemon/orange aid. Give yourself a treat, linger a little longer, and enjoy all the amenities of the spa even if you are only in for a massage.

 
Massages are performed in comfortable treatment rooms by well trained therapists. The rooms are not filled with clutter and are large enough that the therapists are not crashing into things or bumping the tables during treatments. The therapists also put your robe in a warmer during your treatment so it’s toasty warm and soothing for your short stroll back the the lounge.

 
On the way out we stopped to meet the new General Manager, Danica Amstadt. Danica was promoted to Danville from Burke Williams Torrance location and is loving it here in Northern California. She appreciates our outdoors and beautiful surrounding of the Diablo Valley. We were really impressed by Danica’s warm and friendly demeanor…she’s a great fit for Danville.

Many choose a beautiful French Manicure. What you may not know is you can decide the type of pink and the type of white colors for your French Manicure. Options range from sharp to subtle, pinks to grays-oh the possibilities! This makes French Manicures our most popular bridal option…even for brides who never considered themselves “French Manicure” types. A fun alternative is an American manicure: white on the nail bed and the pink on the tip. Again, the color choices are many…extreme to subtle.

If a French manicure isn’t your style, we recommend a sheer polish treatment. We have so many options here from clear to silver to every soft pink you can image. This polish treatment includes a base coat, two layers of soft color, and top coat. Your entire nail surface will be the same color. We recommend this option for brides concerned about chips because chips are much less visible with light sheer colors.

Of course, you can always go with a bold color. We always apply a basecoat, two layers of polish, and  a top coat to help set the polish. If you do not regularly get nail treatments a deep color option can be risky for your wedding day. Polish takes hours to cure, and it could ding and dent if you are active. If you are set on a deep dark and beautiful color you must be aware of your nails. We want your day to be perfect too!

At Pinkies we offer color alternatives for those who prefer a no-color treatment. Even when you don’t want color, you can still get trimmed cuticles and shaped nails on your special day. Clear polish or a fabulous buff will leave your nails picture perfect.

Our Deluxe treatments include a massage and will fully moisturize your hands and feet. Deluxe Pedicures feature a fragrant exfoliating scrub that leaves your feet and lower legs smooth and glowing as well as a 10 minute lower leg and foot massage that will relieve you from stress. In this economy some people have found more creative approaches to reaching new customers. A bit over the top is Paul Saad of Merrill Lynch who recently hosted his Financial Planning Seminar at Pinkies Nail Salons in Danville, Ca.

Paul and his associates held in information packed evening for 15 pre-registered women on “Financial Planning for Women” complete with scrumptious hors d’oeuvres, wine and deserts. When word got out, the event was fully booked in hours!

While his guests received Pinkies Pedi’s they were educated on the intricacies of financial planning. The group asked very good, direct questions and got relevant answers. Guest came away educated and much more knowledgeable about their finances.
