I must admit, the only reason I even started to look at the newest celebrity endorsed fashion line was because of one Ms. Alexa Chung. This past year has seen me become mildly slightly obsessed with her ultra cool girl chic style. So when I heard she was once again collaborating with J.Crew’s spin off brand, Madewell, I was all over it!
Never one to disappoint, Ms. Chung designed an all around impressive line; the standout piece for me being these denim flares (did I mention that flares are back in?)! With the name, ‘Its’ All Happening’, a cute nod to ‘Almost Famous’, I just had to make the splurge.
Many people regard flares in one of two ways; ‘no way am I going back to my middle school wardrobe’ or the ever present, ‘they just won’t look good on me’. If you happen to fall under the latter category, yes you can!
Flares are easy to wear if you follow a few simple fashion guidelines:
-This trend looks best with height, try to always wear your flares with heels, wedges or high boots.
-Don’t make it too much of a throwback look. Avoid looking like a flower child by keeping it modern on top, try tucking in a silk blouse or a sleek blazer for modern appeal.
-Avoid the all out bell bottom look. This may go a little over kill, instead try jeans that are skinny until about your mid calf, the perfect flare length.
Pairing your flares with a simple neutral colored tunic and some brown platform wedges is a great look for fall, while accessorizing with a slouchy bag gives a nice 70’s era touch. Don’t forget to give your nails some love with a neutral shade for fall, like OPI’s ‘You Don’t Know Jacques’!

This season, it is again hip to be a square! From collegiate cardigans to sweater vests, knee socks and back again, preppy chic is certainly in full effect this season for one memorable fall trend. That being said, don’t think the ivy league look can’t have a little modern flair. Fashion is all about making a popular style speak to your own taste after all!
Playing with color and fabric while staying true to silhouette and certain staple pieces would be the proper way to way this trend. A perfect example of such is perennial cool girl and all around style icon in the making, Alexa Chung. Her outfit is preppy perfection with a colored blouse and girlish skirt all put together with a plain gray sweatshirt for a current spin.Take a cue from this one ladies!
As for jewelry pairings, a long necklace is really the best way to go with these usually high necklines. A single strand, pendant necklace will capture the softness and femininity of the look while mixed metals and tassels will definitely make it stand out as sleek!
Whether you are in the faux camp or prefer the real deal, fur is always a huge component for fall fashion. Faux fur has been seen on the Chanel runways, and on fashion forward celebs like Victoria Beckham. While you may only sport your fuzzy outwear for a few minutes of the day, it is still very important to know how to pair it with the right fashion jewelry; because as we all know, overdoing it on the jewelry might make you look like you just stepped off the Jersey shore, and no one wants that!
Office Chic
A great tweed jacket is always considered a go to for office fashion, but one trimmed with fur can definitely take your look up a few notches. Your other garments will absolutely need to be in the basic category and jewelry should be no different. Think simple and elegant with small pearls and dainty shapes and sizes, for an effortlessly chic vibe.
Daytime Casual
Adding a fur vest to your everyday fall wardrobe can allow you to play with some vintage-inspired looks. A basic v-neck, a pair of flared pants and chunky-heeled booties can give you a very of the moment take on 70’s swagger. Adding in a long layered necklace to accentuate the neckline will give the ensemble a slight nod to hippie beads, while still looking modern.
Date Night Glamour
Your LBD couldn’t look more glitzy or date night appropriate with the addition of a cropped fur jacket. Take this Hollywood level of glam and go all the way with it with some dazzling rhinestone accessories; if we’re going to go for glamorous we may as well go all the way with it! Add some tiered earrings and a statement cocktail ring and you will be red carpet (or fancy restaurant) ready!
Playing with menswear can be a very fun and liberating experience. While high fashion has had a soft spot with androgyny style for the past few decades, incorporating menswear into your wardrobe is about more than that. It allows women to push boundaries and find a new brand of confidence that branches out from your basic overworked ultra femme looks to something different, bold and ultimately, empowering!
Keeping that in mind, you will find that creating your own menswear outfit is relatively easy. But accessorizing it? In fashion spreads, we often see very minimal jewelry to accommodate these sartorial looks, yet, where would we be without our accessories? Some very basic pieces would more than elevate the entire look.
When pairing fashion jewelry with your menswear, go fairly basic. No bling required ladies! Even delicate chains or light beading would also conflict with the theme. Instead, go with embellishment in the form of texture. Burnt metallic finishes, tassels, or heavy pendants would complement the masculine play on style, while reminding people that you are still absolutely all woman. Feel free to also play with a little color, just not enough to detract from those gorgeous garments, like these colorful options from Zara. Menswear is often lush and luxurious so let it speak for itself.
