Pinkies Beauty Blog

News and more about beauty and the Bay Area

It’s true!  Pinkies was featured on the adorable beauty blog bellasugar.com. Bella came into Pinkies one afternoon to try out our newest addition to the Pinkies family; Shellac,  and after much anticipation, the video was finally released this week!

Bella was a very sweet girl, not to mention her camera guy wasn’t too hard on the eyes either.  Aha! Jokes aside, having them in was a blast.  Although Trisha was very nervous to be on film, she handled it like a pro and did an excellent job representing Pinkies.  Thanks Trisha!

And as it turns out, her manicure did last a full 14 days without but one minor chip on the front of the nail, barely noticeable!  Here are some pictures we managed to sneak around and snap while they were taping.   Thanks again Bella for choosing Pinkies to try out Shellac!

Alright, yes, I get it! Okay, I get it. The economy sucks, everything sucks, rainbows don’t exist anymore, blah blah blah. Okay, not everything sucks and rainbows may still exist, but you get the idea. I don’t know about any of you guys, but I am fed up with hearing about people blame all of their problems on the economy. Sure, each penny we find on the ground now seems to be a but more valuable, but what’s wrong with that? We may have to buy the safeway brand pasta sauce rather than the delicious creamy Classico vodka pasta sauce (yum, maybe I’ll splurge on that one), but we always have to remember that changes are never bad, they’re just different. Naturally, of course! Different things are just different. Let’s open our minds to see the beauty there is in change! Open ourselves to the abundance that is the universe!

With that, I wanted to show you all some money saving beauty tips,

brownsuga1) Exfoliate with sweetener. Simply by mixing brown sugar and honey, you have MacGyvered your very own exfoliating scrub. Let’s face it – exfoliaters are an absolute must for healthy and smooth skin but they always seem to burn a hole in your pocket every time you run out! Mix these two common household products and voila! Smooth, healthy skin without the dollar signs. (Cosmopolitan)

2) Use Johnson’s Baby Shampoo as Eye Make up Remover I am a firm believer that one of the worst feelings in the world is waking up with crusty raccoon eyes. This simple trick is not only economical, but it is awesome! Who knew? (Cosmopolitan)

3) Use an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse to Brighten your Hair We are all well aware that our lovely San Francisco has a bit less than lovely summers, but our hair doesn’t need to reflect that. Instead, throw some apple cider vinegar in your hair as a rinse and let it reflect the sun rather than the lack of sun. (Cosmopolitan)
4) Out of Something? Try mixing old ones!

  • Use toothpaste or OTC cortisone cream on blemishes (eye drops can get the red out of them, as well)
  • Dab a bit of olive oil on very rough/dry patches of skin
  • Out of de-puffing eye cream? Chill a couple of spoons in the freezer and place over your eyes
  • Use canola oil as a cheap hot oil hair treatment
  • Try sesame oil for stretch marks

5) Try shellac manicures rather than just manicures! ItShellac-Manicure-225319_image may seem a bit shameless, as we are Pinkies Nail Salon’s blog, but economically speaking, a shellac manicure is the best way to have the longest lasting look on your nails (especially if your nails are already healthy and beautiful.)  Shellac lasts for a solid 14 days, seriously. No more annoying attempts to fix your nails with white out after 2 days, this stuff actually works.

Fall is right around the corner ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to buckle in that summer tan and paint your nails to match. Unsure about which color is going to look the best? We’ve got news for you! the newly introduced Swiss Collection by OPI are the perfect colors for the upcoming season. Whether you like to let your inner diva sparkle through with colors like “Glitzerland” (Pictured below) or you would rather stay mellow with the navy tealish color “Ski Teal we Drop,” (also pictured below) OPI has the perfect fall colors for your hands and toes.

With summer finally upon us, and yes I say finally because as you are all well aware our bay area “summer” always shows up a little late, we have some amazing colors from OPI and Essie that will satisfy your need for a little sunshine on your pinkies.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get here at Pinkies is what color polish is the most popular right now. Since color preferences changes with each season, summer is the perfect time for you to try a color you wouldn’t normally. Think bright and think bold. The 80′s has made a comeback this summer in the form of fluorescent pink polish. But why is it so popular? It is feminine, looks good against any skin tone and glows in the sun; naturally it is perfect for summertime. We offer a wide variety of pink polishes, from pale pink to neon pink.

Quench your thirst this summer by having your Pinkies technician paint your toes with OPI Strawberry Margarita.

Another popular bright pink polish this season from OPI is Koala Berry. If you’re an Essie girl, go for either Bachelorette Bash or Exposure for your pink fix.

Another trend I’ve noticed this summer is inspired from the sea. That’s right ladies, I’m talking about blue polish. And let me just say, there is no age limit for blue. It looks flattering on everyone! If you’re still hesitant, why not just try it on your toes? It will look great against the hot sand at the beach or when you dip your them into your pool. Our blue polish selection ranges from tropical blue to navy blue. From OPI, I would recommend Teal The Cows Come Home or Suzi Says Feng Shui. Essie has a great navy blue polish called Aruba Blue. For something lighter from Essie, Barbados Blue is an excellent option.

Sticking with the motto for the summer, “bright and bold,” coral colors are making a big appearance as well. We are moving from colors of the sea to colors of the sunset, try the sea on your toes and the sunset on your fingers for a summery contrast. Coral, as many of you know already, is a color between pink and orange. For something hot and spicy, give OPI Cajun Shrimp a try. For those of you who really want to make a statement, try OPI Atomic Orange. It is just like it sounds; loud and very daring. The most popular coral polishes from Essie are Tart Deco and Boathouse.

A few other honorable mentions this summer is Essie Lilacism; a beautiful lavendar polish. Perfect for those of you that love pastel polishes. Summer is  also wedding season so if you’re unsure of what color to choose, go with the classic French polish. It’s fresh, it’s clean and will compliment any dress you wear. For a little extra feminine flair, add some nail art or add a line of silver sparkle where the white hits the pink (also known as a smile line).

Anxious to test out some of these summer polishes? Call your local Pinkies today and set up an appointment for a manicure and pedicure.
